The gobbos are gone

Hello world it’s been awhile as I have been too busy surviving in the idiot infested wasteland we laughingly refer to as England, the high command has had me busy doing bits and bobs as well.

Whilst I was away it seems some objectionable gobbos had infested this blog, up to nefarious deeds, now I’m not adverse to nefarious deeds, I like a bit of mayhem as much as anyone, but they seemed to be making money out of this and if I’m not, no one else is allowed, the very cheek of it..
However I have eradicated them with the righteous fire of the Emperor.

But now I’m back and so is Necromunda

Too be honest the hobby side of life had slipped to the back burner of late, but no longer the release of Necromunda Underhive has fired me up no end. So stand by for lots of posts as I build and paint all sorts of gangers and construct scenery

Fluidity of time

In know time is supposed to do weird stuff in Warp Space but it’s not supposed to happen in real life.. But it’s been almost 2 years since I last posted anything, by the emperor’s golden beard that’s a long time. However I have been busy on this glorious hobby of ours and have painted nearly all of the backlog of models that have been outstanding for so long – I’ve even bought some more..

I’ve spent the lsat few weeks however updating and rearranging my armies to comply with the new codex, I also at the time created little data cards for all my units e.g.

IGsheet

These are great for quick reference of what special rules units have, their stats and keeping record of hits and damage and speeds up the game as everything to hand – useful if like me you are not a walking encyclopedia of all things 40k.

As anybody who has seen my ramblings before I have attempted and failed to create scenery for my games. After testing out various bits and pieces and playing games with ‘The chip of the old block’ and various friends, I have revised my plans. Due to the length of time it takes to place scenery on the table prior to gaming I decided to create a modular system which can be used with the GW Terrain boards but would have a city theme. I’m going to create 1 foot squares with fixed road systems and part of buildings in the corners .The grand idea is that when placed in any pattern the bits of the buildings should line up to form bigger buildings, hopefully. These will be permanent fixtures but will be able to take more stories as required, otherwise can be left as ruins.

cityboards2As this diagram shows it should work in any layout. The boards will be placed in a frame which I’ve already built and so I can mix and match the GW boards and the ones I make.

I will also do hi-rise roadways, walkways and ramps so we can have a more varied Necromunda type fight.

I’ll let you know how it goes..

Link re-established

Hi world – I’m back!!

Miss me – going off my inbox  – no you didn’t, well never-mind I’ll carry on regardless.

I’ve not posted for a while – nor done anything 40k related as, cue dramatic music, dum diddly dummmm – SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED, has had me remodelling the house.

Now this in 40k terms would be simple an arm swap here and there.. oh no the whole of the down stairs of our house is now one big echoing room with a new kitchen – hand built which alone took me six months. However and now to the sneaky bit, we now have a large dining table in a large room which is the perfect size to layout a 6′ x 4′ gaming area.

Having now earned massive and I mean massive amounts of brownie points, I can at the moment do no wrong, even buying a set of Games Workshops, ridiculously expensive, yet highly useful and beautifully made, Terrain boards resulted only in a raised eyebrow and an indulgent smile… Happy days!!

As regular followers will have noticed my own attempts to create terrain boards of my own has not been very successful – they looked alright but took ages to assemble and since gaming time is at a premium I took the plunge and got the GW terrain boards. There’s lots of arguments for and against these boards on the web, some very vitriolic, however my tuppence worth is that if you can afford them, time and storage space is at a premium, then go for it as they are a fantastic product, study, clip together securely and take up a small amount of space in the carrier bag.

I’ve now started making a city to go on the boards pictures to follow..

In the meantime – happy gaming.

Dark Vengeance

Well the summer holidays are over and the sun has come out – why does it do that? As soon as the first day of school rears it’s head and all the kids congest the streets in stiff, itchy uniforms and squeaky new shoes then the downpour stops and the sun comes out..

Mind you, all that rain has meant that SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED, has not had me out in the swimming pool we laughingly call a garden, trying to coax half dead weeds into flowering beauties. But it has resulted in, more hobby time, as the wonder that is my dearly beloved, stares sadly out the rain washed window. Honestly dear, I’m broken hearted I can’t cut the grass and weed the border!!!

The planned games went ahead over the holidays and the zombies were a laugh a minute randomly entering the game and disrupting all carefully laid battle plans. They will feature more..

However Dark Vengeance loomed large on the horizon.

As soon as I saw the minatures planned for the 6th version boxed set, I was instantly gollumised – my precious – must have.. must have NOW!!!

You get the picture. So here I am, all painting and modeling suspended, sat hunched by the front door awaiting delivery.

Rise of the Zombies

Well it seems my corner of this green and pleasant land has been overrun by hordes of flesh eating undead… And yet again my painting plan goes out the window.

As the ‘chip off the old block’ and I were planning our next game in our ongoing campaign, especially how to incorporate some games with his school fiend who will be staying with us for a while over the summer holidays, when, probably due to late night cheese snacks and watching too much ‘Walking Dead’ on TV. The future of my Genetic code and survival of my family name, casually announced..

“You know what we don’t have enough Zombies in this game”.

And after due consideration I had to agree with him after all – you can’t ever have enough Zombies in anything.. As we had not quite decided what Chaos was actually doing in our campaign the next logical step (for insane maniacs, obsessed with anything dead and rotting) was to have Fabius Bile try to release a plague on the planet, infect the populous and harvest and the results.. Great Idea, we thought , we’ll have a small game first were Imperial forces have to stop Fabius releasing the virus into the ventilation system of the main urban complex.

Of course the Imperials are going to fail – there’s no fun otherwise – we want hordes of zombies disrupting the games in future, attacking all sides.

So I needed some Zombies GW’s were as usual a bit expensive @ £2.50 for 20 however I got some Mantic – Undead – Undead Zombie Regiment were a bargain @ £16 for over 30 from Triple Helix Wargames (great Guys – prompt service, cheap as chips and free delivery – can’t say better than that!) So painting list abandoned Zombies on the rampage.

I’ll post agin soon when my zombies assembled and painted.

Fail to plan…..

I hadn’t realized it has been so long since I posted anything here – I’ve been so busy elsewhere my hobby has taken a back seat – unfortunately it seems that back seat was with Thelma and Louise – straight off a cliff….

Anyway since the north of England has been turned lately into a giant swimming pool – with more rain forcast – more, where the hell is it going to go?? – I mean I know that noah had to contend with 40 days and 40 nights – which in Lancashire is considered drought conditions – but this is ridiculous – doesn’t it know it’s supposed to be summer?

This does mean however that I can spend more time painting and gaming rather than working my way though THE LIST – jobs that SHE WHO MUST BE OBAYED has written down – Hercules never had it so good!!!

Any road sideways – I digress – to optimize my time and keep to the plan outlined earlier I have created a list of models for each army I’ll go across from left to right and vary the armies and models I paint to avoid boredom – some of these are already painted and some just need tweaking to bring them inline with the campaign..

Meanwhile have fun and buy an ark

Build a building!!

Scenery is definitely becoming a problem – so I decided to do something about it..

Like most people, no doubt I love Forgeworlds new Realm of Battle Zone Mortalis scenery but Hells Bells is it expensive – not very flexible and only one level. However – a friend of mine passed me some files for World Works Games scenery he’d bought and never used – so I had a go but they were flimsy, fiddly and not suitable and I like the thick walls in the Forge world ones. Ah well back to the drawing board..

So I did what I always do when stuck for ideas I trawled the net for inspiration and/or drink loads of alcohol – not necessarily at the same time.. However after lots of futile searching I came across this blog – Incunabulog and his ideas for building terrain from world Works Games Scenery and I loved the canals – so I zipped over to World Works Games (www.worldworksgames.com) and bought myself some Himmelveil Canals etc. – really high quality and dirt cheap – my idea of heaven –  Sad basket, I know!

So using some of the ideas from Incunablog I created my own buildings and rooms and the results were great – especially as I’m lucky enough to have access to a really good colour laser printer – consequently I made loads – and then stupidly noticed I had nowhere to put them…  So I slapped myself silly for a while – mildly entertaining, stacked them in the spare bedroom – to be mauled by the cat and kicked by the kids and went back to painting my chaos renegades.

Well I don’t know if it was the repeated blows to the cranium or leaving the project alone for a while but I had a revelation during the night – I didn’t leap up shouting eureka! – She who must be obeyed would certainly have objected to that – she’s not at all pleased the back bedroom is full of foamcore card buildings, but I did creep downstairs and jot my ideas down.. and this is what I came up with..

I like the Terrainlinx system for joining the tiles together – it’s a neat system – but I wanted thicker, chunkier walls so I thought of sticking the Terrainlinx tabs top and bottom to form T tabs for the base tiles and + tabs for the next floor. The walls to be made by sandwiching foam core card between two foam core walls with spaces for the tiles and pillars on one end, similer to the Forgeworld Battle zone tiles..

Next I took apart the scenery I had already made and using the Himmelveil Canals, Sewers and Streets packs and the Orbital Packs all from World works – I created the following … and I think it works all I need to do is work out doors etc and I’m laughing -well giggling slightly in a corner of my padded cell!!

I’ll post more as I do more

Happy Gaming

Renegades! Renegades! where for art thou!!

Actually they’ve arrived – early – gotta love e-bay.. Since the weather was unusually warm and sunny – in March – sun!! I thought we’d be in for at least two more months of gloom, I decided to make the most of the dry weather to assemble and undercoat the new arrivals. I have to spray outdoors in my shed as SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED gets grumpy if she finds her curtains covered in black overspray, some people are just so unreasonable..

So here you go, the new arrivals and some old – very old metal miniatures converted to be the champion, standard bearer and enforcers. ready to be undercoated. The command squad troopers were converted from some old skulls and cadian re-breathers, tau legs and plastic coat tails from a historex (I think) model. All the chaos bits came from my bits box – left over from a chaos battle squad I purchased and the banner is from a Warhammer Black Orcs Boxed set which I’ve already converted to an ‘Ard Boyz unit.

And so to the paint job – for some reason known only to the gods of painting I’ve decided to paint them in an olive and red/bronze colour – partly to match the allegiance to khorne and partly because it looks good??

Actually I like the results, these are the finished ones with the chem trooper heads – breastplate and backpacks were scratch built to match the forge world ones. I really like the Minimax Kromlech designs and I’ll get some of the Orc in greatcoats later on for Storm boyz – but that’s another story.

All I’ve got to do now is finish the painting ready for the game this weekend – only – !!

And then there’s the terrain – I’ve been thinking and that’s always a bad sign.. I need something more flexible and easier to store than the rigid cities of death buildings I have already.. My head is filling with foam core card constructs and roadways – art shop here I come…

Complications and further additions

And we’re back…

Here’s a quick map of Pavonis that we’re going to be using in our campaign, just the main land mass with all important locations and terrain features, we’ll plot our progress on it as we go along.

Deciding which armies to fight with, however, took rather more time than expected. After lengthy discussions, in which raised voices could have been detected, we decided we needed to ROLL DICE (and drink copious amounts)- settles everything

Roll 1 d8 – On a roll of:

1 – Necrons, 2 – Eldar, 3 – Blood Angels, 4- Imperial Guard, 5 – Orcs, 6 – Chaos, 7 – Tau and 8 – Tyranids.

The Winners were – Blood Angels  and Chaos we also rolled for a mission from the Battle Missions book and ended up with the Surprise Attack.. So a Blood Angel Scout Mission to contact Local Defense Force – avoiding/destroying  Chaos Renegade Patrols.

The stage is set – however I haven’t got a renegade force yet and we can’t go back – the dice have decided so – to the internet..

And we hit a slight snag – after downloading the chaos renegade codex from forge world and drooling over the models – the looted imperial funds aren’t enough for global domination – actually I couldn’t even afford a small jacket button, let alone a full patrol.

Back to the internet and the eternal saviour – e-bay…cue, heavenly music – ok stop heavenly music – it’s good but it’s not that good!

After a lot of searching, tears, tantrums and a lot of coffee I found a set of forge world chaos renegade heads and torsos and enough cheap, used Imperial guards to make two squads and a Command Squad, I also ordered enough Kromlech Iron Reich Chem Troopers Heads from Maxmini (I love them) to finish them off. Just got to wait for it all to arrive – COME ON POSTMAN!!!

Keep you posted..

HURRY UP POSTMAN!!

YES I MEAN YOU – RUN!!

Change is good??

Hi 40k world sorry I’ve not posted anything for a while but real life intruded and I’ve had to spend some time earning the money I spend on 40k..

However time out for a month has given time for reflection and although SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED is very tolerant of my obsession, she does object, slightly, when the dining room is taken over by a massive gaming table for days (weeks) on end. Consequently my son and I decided we needed to play smaller games more often – as it happened I had been re-reading my Gaunts Ghosts Omnibus during my lunch hours – I find it easier not to interact with members of staff when I’m contract working – it saves the embarrassment of them clinging, weeping to my ankle as I claw my way to the door when my contract ends….

Anyway moving swiftly on..

Gaunts Ghosts inspired me to change our campaign slightly and have small infiltration missions which can be played on a 4′ x4′ board – quickly set up and just as easily packed away. As we also realised that our armies were a long way, in galactic terms, from their comfort zones – so a change was needed – an evolution so to speak. Therefore the campaign action switched from one end of the galaxy to the other. Pavonis – which is on the Games Workshop map of the 40k universe – down in the right hand corner – not far from the action with Gaunt and the Sabbbat Worlds. This is getting so geekish – but all the races we have armies for, are down there in various forms.

A quick potted history we decided on as a background: Pavonis is a valuable Imperial mining world, on the border of the North East Sector. Inhabited by 500 million souls, most of the population is centered around the ore extraction mines, the processing factories and the major cities. There are 3 spaceports, a number of manufactoriums and small outlying farms to the south.

It is well armed due to it’s proximity to the Orc world of Alsanta and it’s regular raids. The old and well respected Govorner died over three years ago and his succesor – his son (the self styled Valdro The Subjugator) is reported to have a more ruthless regime. This is not normally a problem for the Imperium, however an initial Inquisitorial investigative party was sent to ascertain the truth of rumours about excessive brutality, violance, disorder and possible trading with Aliens. The party were never heard from again. Now Inquisitor Colm and his Imperial forces have entered the system to investigate.

Pavonis Planetary Defense Force: The PDF or the Blooded Brotherhood, as they are now known, follow the orders of the governor but he never knows until battle is joined whether his troops are true worshippers of the Chaos Gods, or are looking for the first chance to run away or desert.

Zephaniah the Bloody’s Warband: Zephaniah also known as the Tyrant of Amaziah is on a special mission for Abaddon to locate and retrive a precious lost artifact. He is using the Orc warlord to distract the local defenses whilst he achives his goal – the arrival of the Inquisitor and the Blood Angels has seriously cramped his style.

Wazgog’s Boyz: Wazgog is a huge, vicious warlord but also extremely dim. He has been recruited from he Orc world of Alsanta and is being manipulated by Zephaniah to distract the other forces while he completes his real mission.

Imperial Guard and the Blood Angels are under the Command of Inquisitor Colm and are at first avoiding a planet war.

Bien-Tien Craftworld: The Farseers of Bien-Tien craftworld  have forseen in the web a threat to their craftworld in the future if Chaos succeed  – they have arrived to see that they fail – by any means necessary

Shadowsun Hunter Cardre: Shadowsun’s forces are just passing through the sector and are hoping to avoid any conflict or even any contact with the other races. However they will offer their services in exchange for much needed supplies.

Hive Fleet Tiamet Splinter Fleet: The hidden Genestealer Cult and the left-over remnants of the original hive fleet Tiamet, was going to engage in a full rebellion, sabotaging their planet’s defenses in preparation for the uprising. However the chaos incursion and the recent fighting has put the plans in jeopardy.

Sautekh Dynasty Expedition Force: Imotekh The Stormlord has arrived with a small force to search for an old Necron technology nexua hub. He’s not intrested in the other races as yet, but that could change if they get in his way.

This gives us a basis for the first missions –  next time the first battles – hopefully.
